|In the huge set of subcompact SUVs, Tata Nexon is definitely one to have a lot of positive response right since its launch. By launching it on September 2017, the homegrown automaker made its entry into a segment that is very competitive. The vehicle comes with an attractive design and exudes a premium feel. Also, the performance is extremely efficient, be it the power or efficiency. This combination, along with an affordable price tag, is the key to its success.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is one of its toughest competitors which comes with power packed features. It was launched in the year 2014 and received a major aesthetic update recently to make it look more stylish and premium.
In the following article, we are interested in two segments greats.
The Tata Nexon gets the latest design language of the company. The vehicle comes with a fresh design that gives the advantage to edge over its rivals. The vehicle gets an aggressive stance at the front with LED headlamps and daytime runnings.
The S-Cross facelift retains its classic crossover look, including the newly added vertically-slatted front grille which makes it look more aggressive. Moreover, LED headlamps with DRLs are provided which add to the rich-features.
Interior and safety features
Inside the Tata Nexon, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system is provided. Moreover, a three-tone color scheme makes the interior setting wonderful. The vehicle also gets dual front airbags as a standard safety feature. In addition, ABS and EBD are also standard across all variants.
Speaking of the Suzuki Maruti S-Cross, it is given more spacious than the Nexon since it is larger in its size. There is enough space for three people at the rear. Moreover, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which, of course, is bigger than that of the counterpart. Plus, a sufficient boot space completes the package.
The Tata Nexon is available in both the fuel variants of petrol and diesel. It gets a 1.5-liter Revitorq diesel engine which provides a maximum of 108 bhp power along with a torque peak of 260 Nm. The other hand, the petrol unit derives its power from a 1.2-liter Revotron engine, which pumps out up to 108 bhp power and a peak torque of 170 Nm. Both engines are equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There are also three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport.
On the other hand, the Maruti S-Cross is only available in a diesel guise. It comes with a 1.3-liter engine that comes with a torque of 200 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox does the transmission duties for the S-Cross.
So, after comparing the engine of the two arch-rivals one can easily say that Tata Nexon is far better than the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Plus, it has an automatic transmission option too.
As for the pricing, the base variant of the Tata Nexon is about Rs. 6.5 lakh price tag while the top end is priced around Rs. 10.5 lakh. However, you have to pay over Rs. 8.5 lakh to get the basic variant of the S-Cross and while the top trim comes for Rs.11.5 lakhs around.
Though the Tata Nexon has a much less price tag, the features are pretty much same as the S-Cross. So, in my opinion, you can invest in Nexon as it carries a budget-friendly price tag with the better performance.
